The annual “Oblate Youth Encounter,” organized by Oblate Youth Journey—the youth movement of our Province—took place from October 30 to November 1, 2026, at the Mazenod Youth Centre in Maggona. This year’s gathering was held under the theme “We, the Youth, and the Saints of Our Times.”
Over 60 participants gathered with one heart to reflect on how to lead saintly lives amidst the many challenges and temptations of the modern world.

The opening evening set a welcoming tone as participants were introduced to the theme, spent time getting to know one another, and enjoyed a movie together.
The highlight of the second morning was a pair of inspiring sessions delivered by Fr. Prasad Harshana and Fr. Susith Randil, OMI. Fr. Prasad reminded the youth that every saint had their own struggles and shortcomings, but by surrendering their brokenness to God, He transformed their lives. Fr. Randil focused on the early life of St. Eugene de Mazenod, thoughtfully connecting our Founder’s story to the experiences of modern youth and highlighting him as a relatable role model.
In the afternoon, the participants bonded through engaging group activities. The evening featured a deeply moving Eucharistic Adoration followed by the Sacrament of Reconciliation, with several Oblates from St. Vincent’s Home generously making themselves available to hear confessions.

The night came alive around a bonfire, where five dynamic groups showcased their artistic talents through song, dance, and drama.
The final day coincided with the Feast of All Saints. Members of the Mazenod Youth Journey shared moving testimonies of their journey as Oblate youth, inspiring several newcomers to express their desire to join the movement. The event culminated in a joyful celebration of the Holy Eucharist—a fitting climax to a weekend dedicated to the pursuit of holiness.
Fr. Shanil Jayawardena, OMI, Youth Director of the Province, along with his assistant, Fr. Dan Remesiyes, OMI, express their heartfelt gratitude to all the Oblates of the Province, with special thanks to the community of St. Vincent’s Home for their constant support and encouragement.
