National Calvary Shrine
The National Calvary Shrine of Maggona, established in 1900 by Rev. Fr. Isidore Belle, O.M.I., holds the distinction of being the oldest Calvary of its kind in Sri Lanka. Located on the serene premises of St. Vincent’s Home, this site is an iconic national pilgrimage destination. The main attraction is the historical, giant statue of the Holy Cross set atop a beautiful hill.
The ability to walk the traditional Way of the Cross in a serene environment is a key feature that draws thousands of pilgrims annually to this sacred and historic place of worship.
St. Vincent’s Home (SVH) community organizes various programs at the Shrine throughout the year, with special activities scheduled during the Lenten Season.
